I got blood on my quilt...

I pricked my finger and didn't realize it before I had blood all over my quilt - off white background that I was hand appliqueing. I quickly panicked :) and then emailed my Mentor, Nanci! She said to spit on it and continue spitting till it comes up - will only work with your spit if it is your blood. Thought I would pass this unique tip along. And it worked!!!!!

My little cannon camera broke! I cannot get the usb card in it, and as any good hubby would do - he operated. Now I need a new camera! I now have to use hubby's huge big thingy, and dread using it!
So my posts will not be as frequent as when I have my snappy little cannon to help me.

Kaylee and Dad playing "Robots"!

We ended up with only 5 inches of snow but the ice is what tore up everyone's landscapes. I don't think there is a yard in our neighborhood or all of Auburn that doesn't have broken trees. It is just so sad. We have seen trees uprooted and areas where it looks like someone just took a machete to the trees.

Bob's sister, Cheryl, brought us up some firewood so we stayed kinda warm the first night our power was out. So sweet of her :)

Our neighbors and best friends, Mechelle and Vince picked us up Friday morning in their 4x4 truck and we got to take showers and thaw out a bit, recharge our cell phone and ipad! Our ipad was our connection to the news - missed that once the battery was drained! ... then we got our power back on late in the afternoon. Our daughter and her family spent the night with us and stayed all day yesterday while their house got their power back on. We had a fun day! Actually hand sewed and visited. I loved that part of the storm :)

Our son and his family got their power back on in time for it to cut off again, but soon it came back on again.

We are so sad to see almost all of our Japanese Maples split in half.... This tree was 21 years old, the first tree we bought for our yard.

I had to take these pictures thru our front window... the squirrels jump over to this pot to eat their goodies they get out of the pan of nuts...

I am amazed at how the crows are squalking near them and they just go ahead and eat like no one is there. We also get Blue Jays and Crows eating our food.

I love getting pictures of the grandbabies with Santa Clause - makes my whole year :)
Kaylee is the perfect age to believe in Santa. Her little sister, Melanie, Not so Happy! The second picture is of Kaylee when she was 4 months old. She was scared of Santa in the in between years. Kaylee told Santa she wants a Mermaid Dress and a Tiger... don't know where that came from :) Can't wait to hear if Santa brings them to her! The little one just wants whatever Kaylee or Cole has at the moment...

Look at Cole, 2 years old and will sit by Santa! We might get lucky and get a picture each year with him and Santa:) I love this Santa's belt buckle - says it all :) Cole wants anything Thomas the Train and Mickey Mouse... I know for sure he will get both from Gramma and Papa!

Went and spent a fun filled Saturday with my daughter, Stephenie, and of course, did some shopping... Came home with this adorable snowman figurine! Went to the NW Quilt show yesterday and had so much fun! I made this 'make and take' applique.
Then I blanket stitched around it (was a bit rusty...) and then added pom poms! I love the holidays!
The booth was www.sewwonderfuldreams.com Loved their booth. The women were all so helpful. I had never used 'wonder under 805'. Cannot believe how easy it is to get your needle through! I will be making more of these in the next few weeks for sure :)

New tile on the floor!

Our last big renovation is finished - replacing our old oak floors with tile!

Whew! This one was a humdinger, had to stay in a hotel for two nights, had to pick a different tile than our original due to the first tile being warped... it goes on and on... and finally after an additional $3300.00 it was finished. A nightmare that looks great - thank goodness! Renovations are not for the weak of heart I have learned!

I have never been to one, so I found one that I think my daughter and I would love..... and of course, it is full :( We are currently on the waiting list for the http://knot-ygirlsstitcheryclub.blogspot.com/ for the Halloween retreat. We are both pretty excited about it since Meg Hawkey's work is just absolutely out of this world! I hope we get in:) If not, we will try to get on her next year's list. We both love Halloween - so it seemed to be the perfect choice of a retreat:)

My Friend, Nanci, won 2nd place at the quilt show for her "Abe Lincoln" quilt. I am so excited! I am sorry about the picture being sideways, I couldn't figure out how to edit it and turn it upright. Look at the detail - her writing, his nose (so cool how she fussy cut that one out:) She ended up donating it to The Rochester Historical Society in Illinois. Lucky people!!!! She used a log cabin inner border with a courthouse step outer border. Gorgeous work!

My $5 Quilt!

My daughter took pity on me and set my blocks and binded the quilt for me:) Plus, machine quilted it! I am so lucky to have her as my daughter! And one that quilts is a special treat! We hope both her daughters will learn to love to quilt too :)
It was my first Block of the Month class. For $5 they provided the material and pattern and teacher for all the blocks! What a deal. I love it:) Terri Nussbaum was our teacher - she is the best! She is so knowledgeable, and makes the classes so fun to take:)

I have always wanted a civil war quilt -but have been a bit intimidated by all the fabric choices out there.
Now I don't have to worry, Sara is going to make me this gorgeous basket pattern by Fig Tree in all civil war fabrics. How lucky am I? And, since she is making it for me, I will get it sooner than if I was making the quilt:) I love the colors she choose. Lucky Lucky me!!!!

If you want your quilt to be softer, wash and dry the batting before you sew it into your quilt.

I had this pillowcase that I had hand embrodiery a while back - thought it would be the perfect pillowcase to crochet a scalloped edge on. But, I had a bit of a problem getting the needle thru the cotton fabric. So my hubby came to the rescue...

He brought me in his 'awl' from the garage and it made my life sooooo much easier!

Hubby finally found a paint color he likes - then the ceiling will be a color called "Pale Glow". The ceiling paint has a sheen to it. It is pretty much just an ivory color. Will definitely look better than the gold I had on before:)

Bathroom Remodel Day 13

The bath tub is in! YEAH! We let the granddaughters take a bath in it yesterday and everything works!
We had a problem with the plumbing fixtures... so we had a few days of inactivity. But everything is a go
now... had to tear out some tile in the shower and the tile man is coming later today... there is always something that goes wrong - you just have to be patient and think of the end results....

Love having them use the tile as a mop board instead of wood.

Alex has done a beautiful job laying the tile. It has to set for 24 hours then he will come back and grout and then seal:) You can tell I took these pics in the daytime - the colors are truer than the previous pics which were taken in the evening after the guys left. Love how it is turning out:)

Our counter top arrived! We love it!

Here are on the the under counter sinks... the other one broke when trying to install the countertop.

The Tiler is starting to lay some of the tiles... this is in front of the tub.

That covering on the shower walls is a protective waterproof coating. It is applied from rolls. The rolls look like paper towels:)

Somebody (like Mr. Bob!) was snooping in my shopping bags yesterday and opened up their present! We are so lucky to have a See's Candy shop near us. They make the best chocolates! YUM!

Pebble Flooring for the Shower

Our contractor recommended using this instead of tile for the shower floor. Looks cool, hope it feels as good as it looks:)

Valentine Pillowcases for the Grandbabies

Love making pillowcases for the grandbabies... when nap time comes - they always want their pillows. I got this fabric at Joann's - especially love the lips!

Bathroom Remodel Day 4

This is called a 'mud' bath - the foundation for the pebble flooring for the shower.

We laid out some of the tile for the floor ... looking good, especially that cute foot:)

I was home today, so I got to take a picture of our Tiler... he is so sweet:)
I'm sure he appreciates the painted fairies in the background of his photo:)

The guys are super careful about our wood floors - so nice!

Got the marine backer board up so they can start the floor of the shower and start putting up tile:)

More backer board... see the spot on the right - where water rotted the wood, this is what started the whole bathroom remodel...

This is the main tile for the floors, bathroom walls and tub area.

This is the pretty tile that will be put sparingly here and there.

And the grand finale.... the granite for the counter top! I can't wait to see this in:)

Granddaughter's apron

Made this darling apron for my Granddaughter - she loves to make pancakes on Monday mornings with her Papa:) I used Tina Givens 'Bee' material - one of my all time favorite and then I made the bias binding from a Jane Sassaman pink and blue dotted fabric. She loves the pocket - we found this mini bottle of Aunt Jemima's syrup that she claims as hers:)
